An arborist business owner’s policy (BOP) offers liability and property protection. It integrates the arborist’s business liability and property coverages into one policy. As you go about your business of caring for trees, maybe even as a certified arborist, you will know you, your employees and business are covered on the liability front.
The coverage is so comprehensive in fact, the BOP and workers comp may be all of the insurance you need (if you do not use vehicles for your business).
In one convenient package, your arborist BOP protects you against lawsuits, fire, theft and much more. The ability to purchase optional coverages also allows you to further tailor important protections to meet the special needs of your business as it changes. Below are some specifics about the coverages on this BOP.
Liability insurance offers several useful protections such as products and completed operations, personal and advertising injury, bodily injury and property damage to name a few. These are all included in the BOP. Everyone who works for you in your arborist company is covered from your bookkeeper to your arborists to your laborers. This means every reasonable expense that results from a liability lawsuit would be paid for: attorney’s fees, court expenses, negotiated settlements and any judgments found against your company.
Items like tools you use to work on the trees, an inventory of trees you may be keeping on your premises as well as special material needed in your business will be covered under business personal property. This usually comes into play if a fire or some other covered peril severely damages your business premises. The policy will spell out exactly what and what is not covered.
The property portion of the BOP will be used for any covered losses (fire, lightning, explosions and other perils) that occur on your owned property used for doing your business. A detached greenhouse, for example, or other detached structure will also be covered as will permanent improvements to the property.
If a calamity occurs that damages the operational parts of your business so much that you cannot earn from it to pay your expenses, you will be reimbursed for a period of time (usually a year) while you are getting your business back in order. It’s a great comfort to know that in effect, you will still be getting paid during this period of great stress.
Important documents, perhaps ones that are essential to your business formation, may get damaged in a fire. If that’s the case, this coverage will pay for the costs to restore the documents. Also, if your receivables are not getting paid because the records relating to them have been damaged, this coverage will pay those amounts for you.
This BOP coverage will protect you from any financial loss resulting from the fraudulent activities committed by one or a group of employees. Examples would be theft of your equipment or the embezzling of cash.
